LinkedIn best practices

How do you get the most out of LinkedIn posting as a marketer?

Many marketers spend a lot of time on LinkedIn and it is worth understanding what really works. Here are my top three LinkedIn best practices for posting:

  1. Avoid posting links in your LinkedIn posts.

That’s right. LinkedIn algorithm is designed to “overlook” posts that include 3rd party links that take you away from the LinkedIn site. This includes links to your website, your blog, or 3rd party articles. Crazy! I know. The best way to post is to include a link in the comment. Another option is to write and post, then edit your article afterwards to add a link.

  1. Use bold and unexpected images

When scrolling through news and updates from your colleagues, partners and companies that you follow on LinkedIn, the posts that you are drawn to have bold and unexpected images. It’s like reading a newspaper. You get attracted to photos and headlines, before reading the article itself. Don’t skimp on time to find a proper image. It is just as important as writing the post itself.

  1. Leverage short and insightful videos.

A video is 5x more likely to get viewed and spark a conversation among viewers. LinkedIn members spend nearly 3x more time watching video ads compared to time spent with static sponsored content. This isn't easy to pull off quickly if you are just starting out, but it becomes second nature after a few tries. Having a compelling subject matter expert as well as good lighting is key.

What are your LinkedIn posting best practices? What do you see working on LinkedIn for your company?
